Escape into the Atlas Mountains on our day road trips. We can guarantee you one of the most enjoyable rides on some of the highest paved roads in Africa!

Day 1

Ourika / Tahnaout

Your guide & driver for the day will meet you at your hotel at 08h30. Your guide will brief you on what you can expect and outline their expectations to ensure you get the best day.

Hop onto the minibus for a 36km drive south into the Atlas Mountains. You’ll leave behind the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh and see a quieter, more natural side of Morocco.

For the first 10kms of the day, you’ll cycle along the banks of the Ourika river.

Then, the road leaves the lush valley and starts snaking upwards towards the west.

For the next 14kms, the road climbs steadily along the mountainside. Gently, you will gain altitude and also some impressive views across the Atlas Mountains. There are Berber villages dotted across the landscape as well that you’ll be able to see.

After reaching the highest point of the day at the Tizi n'Tadmamt (1813 meters above sea level), there is a more relaxed section that follows the mountain’s contours. From here, you’ll have superb views stretching towards the Haouz Plains into the north.

After Sidi Fares, you’ll enjoy a thrilling 10 kms downhill section towards Asni. Depending on how you feel, you can either finish cycling in Asni or cycle the last 15 km to reach Tahnaout.

Biking Distance: 65 km / Altitude Gain: 1,175m, Altitude Loss: 876m / Min Altitude: 855m, Max Altitude: 1,133m / Physical difficulty: ▲▲▲▲▲/ Technical skills: ▲▲▲▲▲ /

For strong cyclists, we propose the option to climb to Oukaimden Ski Resort (the longest climb on the highest road of Morocco 2600m!)

Your Guide

Our guides are all very experienced guides from Morocco. Don’t worry, they speak English, Moroccan, Arabic and French.

Your guide for the day will meet you at your hotel in the morning and will stay with you until the end of the tour back at your hotel. When they first meet you in the morning, they will brief you on the day ahead, weather, safety and the use of your bike. Please pay attention. They are sharing this information so that you can get the most from the day.

Throughout the day, your guide will tell you about the landscapes you’re cycling through, the villages and what life is like for the people who live there.

Our guides are also knowledgeable first-aiders if there’s an injury. If there are any mechanical issues with your bike, your guide will do their best to solve the problem.
